COOK, COOKE, HOLYFIELD -
My father John Henry Cooke was born in Bluefield WV 7-8-01 son of James Samuel and Maggie Lee (Holyfield) Cooke. I am looking for any information about this family that might be in the Mercer County area such as other members of the family, dates and places born/died/buried, schooling, occupations, ancestors etc.. I have also heard references to Beckley WV but know nothing else about Beckley. There is a strong possibility that the Cooke's were also known as "Cook" as they appear in later Rockingham Co, NC census data from 1920. Luther Cooke, South Carolina

CLARK, HARMON, HAWHEE -
I am looking for information on two men who came to Mercer, County from Indiana. They have supposedly died in Princeton. Sherman Hawhee and his brother Orville. I have no death date for Sherman but Orville died in the 1950's. I am told that Sherman left a family in Indiana and don't know if there is another family in Princeton or not. There also seems to be a nephew named George Harmon who was with a circus as a clown. He was a midget 36 inches tall and married to Opal Clark Harmon and had two children named Sam and Dixie Lee. George died in 1944. Can anyone direct me to where I can find some of this information from Mercer County. Were there particular circus's in West Virginia?

CORNELIUS, TACKETT -
I am researching the background of my grandfather, Samuel Ephraim Tackett, and I believe his father was Alexander Tackett and mother was Caroline Cornelius Tackett (both from North Carolina). They were listed in the 1880 census for Mercer County and evidently Alexander was not in the 1890 census. I would like very much to know when Alexander died and where he was buried, but have had no success in researching. I would really appreciate any help or tips that you could provide. Thank you so much.

ANDREWS, DAVIS, DUDLEY -
I am currently researching the history of my maternal grandmother's family. My great grandfather's name was William M. Dudley and I know that he was born on August 25, 1878 in Bluefield, West Virginia and after moving to Vandiver, Alabama married my great grandmother Lottie Francis Andrews. They later moved to Denver, Colorado with my grandmother and nine of her brothers and sisters. There were eleven children in all. Anyway, my great grandfather William died on May 24, 1960 and is buried here in Denver. I obtained his death certificate in order to see if I could find out about my great-great grandparents and any great-great aunts, uncles or cousins that I may have. Their names were Tobe Dudley and Jane Davis. I have already sent a letter to the vital records office in Charleston, West Virginia to try to find out their birth dates and death dates, but that was about three weeks ago and I am still waiting for and answer. Any help with my research will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.
