Personal Property Tax Lists
for the years 1844 thru 1850
In 1993, The Genealogical Society of Utah, (Salt Lake City) visited the Virginia State Library and Archives in Richmond, Virginia and scanned the original records of Personal Property Tax Lists and other tax records (early 1800's to mid-1850's) of the counties in Virginia. The scanned images were placed on multiple 35mm microfilm reels. Sometimes the last county to be added to a microfilm reel, still had more images that didn't fit on the reel - in that case, the county's left-over images would be placed on the beginning of the next microfilm reel.
The scans of Taylor County's Personal Property Tax Lists (for the individual years of 1844, 1845, 1846, 1847, 1848, 1849, and 1850) were placed on a microfilm reel with two other Virginia counties (Sussex and Tyler). Sussex County (at the beginning of the reel) was split over two reels, as was Tyler County (at the end of the reel).
There are 886 scanned images on the "Sussex, Taylor, Tyler" microfilm reel that includes Taylor County on images 321 thru 539.
The FamilySearch website recently placed the scanned images of the Virginia-Tax microfilm reels on their website. The following are links of the "first-letter" of the LAST-NAME for the transcribed "combined index" of Taylor County (years 1844 thru 1850). The lists are sorted by FULL-NAME and include columns for IMG# (Image#), PG#, and SEQ (sequence of the row on the scanned-image for each person), and YEAR. The "Comments" column was added for when there were alternate spellings of the LAST or FIRST-NAMES that are not within a short range while you are scrolling up or down a list.
