To request vital records or wills send $2.00 per certified copy.  For uncertified copies the charge is $1.50 for first two pages and $1.00 per additional page.  This fee was current as of 5 Feb. 1999.

When requesting a record it is especially helpful if you have the Volume and Page Number.  The miniumum amount of information you must give for the clerks to look is the name of the person and the year of the event.  Try to give as much information as you have - the clerks will not conduct a general search to find your ancestor.  It would also be helpful if you include a
return self-addressed stamped envelope with your request.

The Raleigh Co. Library has an excellent collection of books for Raleigh and surrounding counties.  There is not a staff specifically for genealogy, however.  The Reference Department can help you with general questions though.  There are also records on microfilm and microfiche.  Most notable includes the Smith-Riffe Collection.  There is a reader in the Genealogy room and also behind the Reference desk.  Copies for microfilm and microfiche are .10 per copy.  Copies from books from the regular copy machine are .20 per copy.  There are currently three computer terminals with Internet access.

Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday: 9am to 5pm
Sunday: 1pm to 5pm
