I have just recently started trying to find out information about the
Copeland and Campbell's of Monroe County for my family tree. My grandmother
is Margie J. Copeland and was married to Howard Campbell. They had one
son named James Howard Campbell. I would appreciate any information you
could send me about my family history. I do not have any idea of the dates
of birth and so forth. I do know that the old home place of my grandmother
was just outside of Rock Camp heading towards Union, WV.

I would like to contact descendants of Rebecca A. Vass, born in Monroe
County, VA, in 1855, and her husband James Graham, born about 1815 (yes
he was much older than her). I believe they had at least one daughter,
a Mary Jane Graham (I don't know year of birth). The parents of Rebecca
A. Vass were Rice C. Vass (born 1835) and Lucinda Willey (born abt. 1835).
I am especially interested in any information concerning Lucinda - I am
trying to corroborate that she was a daughter of Eber Willey, Sr., and
his first wife Rebecca Maddy. This Lucinda Willey and Rice C. Vass had
at least two other children: Mary, born about 1856, and Eber W., born
about 1859. Any help greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any information regarding Anna B. Gwinn of Monroe County?
I believe she probably lived there during the mid to late 1800's, perhaps
early 1900's. I do not know if Gwinn was her maiden or married name, but
she wrote poetry. She wrote a poem about my ggggrandfather cutting down
the Royal Oak tree outside Union, and I am trying to get information on

I think they might have been married in Union, WV on Dec 23, 1903. I know

Charles FRIEND died about 1816, a tavern-keeper in Union, also had land
on Turkey Creek and Dropping Springs. First wife Nancy had died long before;
second wife married 1794, was Nancy Agnes KELLEY. His estate was taxed
as late as 1831. Is she the Nancy Friend, age 75, on the 1850 Floyd Co.,
Ky. census? Need help accessing estate records, deeds, etc., that might
help prove heirs to this estate.

JAMES ALLEN signed a marriage bond for Betsey Allen in 1807 who married
BARTHOLOMEW LANE. In 1800 he signed another marriage bond for MARY ALLEN
who married JOHN GREENLEE. After 1830 BARTHOLOMEW LANE moved to Jackson
County, Ohio. A deed dated 1827 shows where JAMES ALLEN Sr. gave 100 acres
of land to JAMES ALLEN Jr. He had given 100 acres of land to ANDREW ALLEN.
The land was located at the headwaters of TURKEY CREEK in the Augusta-Botetourt-Greenbrier

In 1860 my great grandfather joined the Monroe Guard - which eventually
became part of the 27th Virginia Infantry Co D. His name was William B.
Beamer. However on the original roster cards signed upon enlistment there
are two signed as "Byrd Beamer" and "Bird Beamer". Does anyone know which
one might be William B. Beamer? Have been puzzling over this for a long
time and cant seem to find an answer. Any assistance will be truly appreciated.
William was 23 and his parents were John N. Beamer and Obedience Mitchell
Beamer.

William Crawford and was born in 1819. He married Mary Polly Clay in 1843.
Augustus and Mary had at least one child - Augustus Clay Crawford (my
great grandfather) who was born on May 10, 1853 in Winifrede, WV. Augustus
William died in 1886 in Kanawha County, WV. His father was Oliver Crawford

My great-great-grandparents, Madison and Mary Ann Garten Meadows, are
in the 1870 Monroe County census, Forest Hill township. I cannot locate
them in the 1880 census (in Monroe, Summers, or other counties) and believe
they may have died between 1870 and 1880. Any suggestions on locating
an obituary? The University of WV at Morgantown does not seem to have
the area newspapers for that time period and I cannot get a record of
death without knowing when they died. Any help greatly appreciated.
