I am looking for any and all information on two families that lived in
Monroe Co., WV during the latter half of the 1800's. The first family
is that of John M. REED (c 1839 - c 1910?) and his wife Sophia (c 1848
- 192?). They moved to Monroe Co. from Floyd Co., VA and had the following
children, all of whom were born in Monroe Co.: Andrew (b 1868), Joshua
(1870 - 195?), Mary (b 1872), Elkaney (1874 - c 1952), Josie (187 - c1948),
James Henry (my g-grandfather; 1884 - 1968) and John "Jack"
(c 1887 - c 1932). Henry and Jack were well known for the musical abilities
(fiddle playing and guitar) and lived in the Glen Lyn, Va and Hinton,
WV areas, respectively, during their adult lives. Josh and Elkaney apparently
resided in Cashmere, WV and spent most of their adult lives there. As
for the rest of the siblings (Andrew, Mary and Josie), not much info is
known. The second Monroe Co. family I'm seeking info on is the Joshua
UNDERWOOD family. Joshua (1826 - 19??) was also from Floyd Co., VA and
moved his family to Monroe Co. about the same time as John and Sophia
REED. He and his wife, Mary (a.k.a. Polly or Betsy; c1825 - 191?) were
the parents of Sophia and her several siblings and apparently resided
in the Lindside area near Peterstown. Any information (including names,
dates, places, etc.) on the ancestors, family members or descendants of
those listed above would be very much appreciated, especially if it concerns
the family of John REED. Thanks a lot, Bob Reed
