LINEBERGER

J. W. Lineberger, right, with elbow on counter.

John Wesley Lineberger, in partnership with S. J. Hunter, entered the grocery business at Benwood in 1897. Seven years later the store, Lineberger & Hunter Company, was moved to 6th Street, McMechen. After the retirement of Mr. Hunter and, later, that of Mr. Lineberger, the business was conducted by Mr. Lineberger's sons, Austin and Robert.

Mr. Lineberger was a well-known Marshall County resident, having spent his entire life there. He was born at Benwood July 15, 1872, a son of William E. and Hester (Smith) Lineberger, and was educated in the county schools.

On May 6, 1903, Mr. Lineberger married Anna Gertrude Kyle, the daughter of Gustav A. and Anna G. (Weeks) Kyle of Triadelphia. Gustav A. was a lumber dealer and one time mayor of Triadelphia.

Mr. and Mrs. Lineberger had the following children: Austin, Robert, Anna Elizabeth (wife of William Reed), Harriett Vance (wife of Reed Garvin) and Florence.

At the time of his sudden death on August 21, 1939, Mr. Lineberger, age 67, was residing at 616 Wheeling Avenue, Glen Dale, Marshall County. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling. His wife survived him. (see obit)
