The Bible has no manufacturer’s name printed on it (perhaps it rubbed off) but the receipt states that it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Criswell on May 2, 1889 from Etta Robb, the salesperson. Printed on the receipt is “Bible for the Home Circle". There was no other manufacturer's information, but perhaps some pages are missing. The Bible also had tin photo slots in it, but the tin photos were loose. The Bible is very large, about the size of letter paper or larger.

The Bible is believed to have been purchased by GEORGE SMITH & MARY JANE (O'DELL) CRISWELL.

The Bible was given to MATTIE CRISWELL, born 28 Jul 1873, the daughter of George Smith & Mary Jane (O'dell) Criswell. The marriage of Mattie Criswell to William P. Brand is the first record in the Bible; they were married 3 Mar 1889. [Mattie was the sister of Russell Jesse Criswell, grandfather of Donna Mollaun.]

The Bible was then passed to GEORGE CRISWELL, the son of Mattie's brother, James Edward Criswell and his wife, Jane Anna Nuzum.

The next owner of the Bible was RONALD EDWARD CRISWELL, the son of George Criswell and Julia Madenski.

The current owner is a daughter of Ronald Criswell and Deann Marie Bodar.

     The following page was transcribed by Sylvia Sligar, Sam Criswell, and Donna Mollaun. This was a LOOSE page, carefully folded and placed inside the Bible. Speculation is that Mattie copied this page of records from a Bible owned by her great-grandparents, Richard Criswell, 1797, & Elizabeth (Lane) Criswell, of Sherrard, Marshall County, West Virginia.
