In the Name of God Amen I Leonhard Hire of the County of
Hampshire in the Colony of Virginia being in a perfect state of
Health [..] present but considering the uncertainty of it think
it proper while I have the happyness to inJoy my senses and
Memory Perfect to Settle and Dispose of My Estates in
Such manner as may prevent all Dispute and Law Suits
after my Death . Viz--------------------------------------
first I give and Bequeath To My beloved Wife Mary the
Third of all My Estate Both Real and Personal Lands
and Tenements for in During her Natural Life -------------
Secondly I give and bequeath To My Beloved Sons Leonhard Hire John
Hire Jacob Hire Lewis Hire Peter Hire a certain
lot of land known by the Name of Sixty one on the East
side of the South Branch of Potowmack in the Said county
of Hampshire and Part of His Lordships South Branch
Manor Containing Two Hundred and Twenty three acres
as by a survey thereof Lately Made by Thomass Marshall
Gentleman. The thid Part thereof only Except to
my Wife Mary and after her Decease I give it wholy
to them and their Heirs and assigns for Ever ------------
Thirdly I give and bequeath to My beloved Sons Michael
Hire Ruty Hire a certain lot of land known by the
Number of fifty eight on the East Side of the
South Branch of Potowmack in the said County of
Hampshire and Part of his Lordships South Branch
Manor Containing one Hundred and four acres as by
a Survey Lately Made by Thomas Marshal Gentleman.
The third Part thereof only Excepted unto My beloved
Wife Mary During her Natural Life and after her
Decease I give it wholy to them and their heirs and
assigns for Ever ----------------------------------------
Fourthly I give and bequeath To My beloved son Leonard
Hire Five Pounds Good and Lawfull Money of Virginia
to be Raised and Lavied out of My Moveable Estate at
my Decease ----------------------------------------------
Turn over on the other Side
and fifthly I Give and bequeath To My beloved children
Leonhard Hire John Hire Jacob Hire Lewis Hire Peter
Hire Michael Hire Rudolph Hire and my beloved
Daughter Mary all My Moveable Estate the third Part
thereof only Excpeted to my Dear Wife to be Equely
Divided among them as the Law hath Provided for
Such Like -----------------------------------------------
and lastly I do hereby Nominate and apoint my Wife
Mary and Valentine Power my Executrix and Executor of this
my will hereby Revoking and Making Void all former
wills & Declaring this and no other to be my True Last
Will and Testament in Witness whereunto I have Set
my hand and Seal this the Seventh Day of Aprill in
the year One thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty three
signed and published in the Leonard Hire (SEAL)

At a Court held for Hardy County June 16th 1786
This Last Will and Testament of Leonard Hire decd was proved by the
Oath of Jno Wise Christopher Strader & Jno Homan three of the
witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded & on the motion of
Valentine Powers & Mary Hire the Executors therein named who made
oath thereto certificate is granted them for obtaining Probate
thereof in due form giving security whereupon they with security
entered into and acknowledged bond conditions as the law describes
Test.
